This photo entry in the Weekly Photo Challenge is of my current future: Tax Season. Or specifically my building. Today was raining and cold, but such is the season (: This photo represents future because this is the beginning of my new job. Soooooo many doors are opening up because of it. I’m learning loads about expatriates and individual taxes and just yesterday I realized that I’ll be able to help the ACP with their taxes next year. They are hiring a family to move to Kenya to be the liaison between Embu and the US. SUPER EXCITING!!!!
p.s. Don’t forget to help give hope! Click the hope picture below to find out more :D
New Year’s resolutions, I’ve never made one. But this year is different. I went to a conference in Atlanta called Passion 2013. It was amazing!!! While there, I learned about slavery and that slavery still exists in the United States. I knew about some of the other places in the world, but I had never really thought about it before, never let it sink in deep. This week that changed and I made my resolution. For 4 months I will be involved in spreading awareness about slavery and supporting the End It Movement.
My photo for the weekly challenge is of my friend, Kelsi, and me shining a light on slavery:
We were also in this video by CNN, shining our lights and shooting a beam into the Atlanta night sky :D
Slavery Still Exists. That just gets all over me, not the numbers, but the pain that men and women, boys and girls can’t escape. Why?? Because no one has stepped in to end it. Let’s do that! Let’s join together and end slavery in the world!
“Slavery is Wrong. You know it. We know it. As a country, we’ve officially known it since 1863. But here’s something you might not know — Slavery still exists. We want every man, woman and child to know that there are 27 million men, women and children, just like them, living in the shadows. In brothels. In factories. In Quarries. Working as slaves. In 161 countries. Including our own. We are here to shine a light on slavery. No more bondage. No more sex trafficking. No more child laborers. No more, starting now.”
So here is your challenge: Join me and together we can change the world. I’m not asking you to give any money. All I ask is that you tell someone what you’ve learned. Awareness is action. The more people who know, the more the injustice is brought to light, the more likely it is of being stopped. The End It Movement. One way to share is by using #enditmovement on twitter and instagram pictures saying that you are in it to end it. Let’s do this!
This article is fantastic. It’s about how we all want to change the world, but most of the time we go wide and shallow rather than diving deep and supporting a few things well. I want to support well and know what I support and be able to share it. I think that is the real way to make a difference.
“I want to accentuate the idea that you can’t do everything on your own. This whole Lone Ranger perspective is dangerous. I think the person [who] tries to do everything will do nothing well. We’re not able to go deep.”
“One of the best pieces of advice I can give to people is, “You can’t do everything.” And I think one of the reasons we might be a little bit shallow in our generation is because we’re trying to invest ourselves in too many things. So, I would caution folks: Be informed and educated about many things, but go deep in a few things.”
“I would love our generation to take more time to listen, to pray, to allow it to break us … We should be about the marathon and not about the instant justice gratification.”
“The other thing that I would say to encourage other folks who are wanting to impact change is this: You cannot ask people to do something you’re not willing to do. That kind of leadership does not resonate with people.”
Basically, just go read it, before I quote the whole thing on here ;)
This post is dedicated to Sevenly. I love Sevenly. I love what they do. I love the causes they support. I love what they stand for. I love that they are changing the world. I love that they let me (and you if you want) change the world with them.
Sevenly is all about giving. AND I love that. So give. Not for praise, adoration, recognition, or acceptance. Give because it’s right. Give because that is something that binds us together. Everyone can give. I give time a lot because it is more readily available. I don’t have much money to give, but I still give it too. Give love. Give hope. Give grace. Give peace. Give laughter. Just GIVE!!! You might just change the world.
Why can’t we be content or satisfied?
What are we missing? What can’t we find?
There’s a hole in my soul that I can’t seem to fill
I’ve got no purpose; I’m empty and ill
About everything that ever comes my way
Nothing clicks or is here to stay
Satisfaction is what we’re after
Contentment is what we all need.
Everything we’ve got doesn’t really matter
Something is missing that shouldn’t Continue reading →
Marion Stone dreamt of adventure,
Of life beyond the boarding school walls,
Of hunting dragons and sailing pirates,
Of joining Robin and all his outlaws.
Her life was full of teachers, not fun.
She longed to be free, to be able to run,
And to join the kings and knights of old lore
That could never reach her behind the school doors.
So one night young Marion made her escape.
She snuck down the halls and out the front gate,
And into a world unknown by her then
Where adventure lurked beyond every bend.
Miss Marion Stone felt the excursions abound
As she stood amazed at the world she had found.
The buildings grew high with Continue reading →
You have a glow
That needs to grow
You have a light
Now make it bright
Make it big for the world to see
Let it shine through you, straight to me
To her, to him
Let it shine to them
To every nation and people
From a hut to a steeple
To the youngest of children, the oldest of old
You have a light and a hope that none should withhold
Now I ask for you to give
Your light to the world, that they may live
It is your choice, your own, not mine
But whatever you do will affect all time.
I have been waiting on this one since the other left off and there was no disappointment at all. It was fantastically amazing. Just when I had it figured out, the plot changed. Just when I thought it might be getting slow, the action jumped in and threw me. And just when I thought it was over, the possibilities exploded!!! Good grief it was good :) Sometimes we must be who is needed not who we want to be. Sometimes the good guy must take the fall, not to earn the glory or because someone forced him, but because the world needs grace. If the bad ones always got what they deserved, there would be no good left. At one time or another, the good ones got a second chance too. -sigh- I always leave Batman wanting to do something selfless and change the world. Maybe we should all hold on to that feeling.
The last six months have been filled with Becker classes and grad school. I graduated in June though, so all that’s left is to finish up Becker. I’ve taken and passed FAR and AUD, taken REG, and all that’s left is BEC. Finally!!!! The wonderful end is in sight :D My next and last exam is August 8th and I can’t wait to get it over with. They (the people explaining CPA study effort) weren’t kidding when they said that it would consume my life. It definitely has. Friendships have ended. Family stress has increased. Dates have been avoided. BUT it’s all almost over!!!!! Hooray!!! All I can do is thank God for giving me passing grades on my exams and in my classes. I can do all things through Him and that had been reinforced over and over again in the last six months. Sigh of relief :)
