Dreaming (aka Weekly Photo Challenge: Free Spirit)

For the Weekly Photo Challenge, we were given the phrase “Free Spirit.” What exactly that means, I have no idea. Soooo I asked my brother. His response was “Whuhhhht?!” (Yes, that is the phonetic spelling of the word “what” from too many xbox/mmorpgs game expressions. That or because it’s fun to say “what” that way.) Conclusion: We have no idea what in the world that phrase is suppose to mean.

In the spirit of the unknown phrase, I’m winging it. The interpretation I’m using is dreaming, light exposure, bright image, and motion. Ehhh, let’s throw in some double exposure while we’re at it too :D The idea was to have the image look like a dreamy state, hence dreaming.

Without further ado, the photo:

And because this was fun taking random light exposure pictures and just random pictures in general, some bonuses:

I hope you like them :D

Acrylic Nail Tutorial: Glow-in-the-Dark

Hey peoples! This is another acrylic nail art tutorial. I meant to post it yesterday, but I made a tankini instead ;) I’ve made two ways to view this tutorial. You can read the instructions and view pictures OR you can scroll to the end and watch the youtube video. Your choice. I like having options in tutorials so I thought I’d share the same courtesy.

~~~ Glow-in-the-Dark Nail Tutorial ~~~
Materials:
Acrylic “Glow” paint – I used Green Glow by FolkArt
Clear nail polish
Paint brush
Water (to rinse brushes)
Cloth to wipe brushes on (I use a paper towel)
Plate, paper, board, or something else to mix colors on and put paint on
Instructions:
1) First add a clear coat to your nails. This gives the acrylic something to stick to and it protects your nail. I used a clear strengthener coat. Be sure to let it dry before you move on to the next step. Continue reading
Jig of the Morning in Music (aka Weekly Writing Challenge: The Sound of Blogging)
This is a poem pulled from a post last year. As soon as I read the challenge, I knew this poem was the PERFECT thing to do for sound. It was originally written to music, so an updated version put to music is exactly what this challenge is about.
To hear the poem, press play on the video and follow along below with the voice. You can also watch the video first. It will recite the poem with music and give you a visual of these flowery dancers.
The lyrics/words are below. Continue reading
Randomness because I felt like posting ;)
I’ve been doing random things in my vacation time. Recruiting begins next week and there are so many things left to do! I bought the Hunger Games trilogy yesterday so that needs to be read. (Before you slam me for having not read it yet, I was in grad school with a full load and studying for the CPA exam. Slack is deserved.) Tomorrow I want to make a glow-in-the-dark nail tutorial, because I found this really great neon green paint that promises glowification. Hopefully, I can rig up a way to record a video for you to go with the pictures and instructions. Harry Potter still hasn’t been read. AND I’m making my own swimsuit. I might post pictures of that if things turn out well. As of right now, I have some stitching to take out tomorrow. Sadness.
So things and stuff and things about stuff. I’m sure there is a balance between enjoying vacation and getting things accomplished, but I haven’t found it yet. Mostly I’ve just watched Sherlock, Dr. Who, Robin Hood, White Collar, and Psych on Netflix. And played Minecraft. Played a lot of Minecraft. Oh wells. This always happens so I should just keep trying, I suppose. Whatever gets done tomorrow, you will have a glow-in-the-dark nail tutorial, provided there are no natural disasters or unexpected tragedies. I do have an expected tragedy, but that is a whole other post that probably won’t be written. Just sayin’. That’s about it for now.
Ohhhhhh, and this is the picture I’ve been meaning to share with you:
It’s my face :) Now I’m done.
The Hue Hue Hue Man
20120820-113754.jpg
I told you two weeks ago that I had a Subway napkin story to tell you and this is it. If you haven’t noticed I have a category called Misc Self Entertainment. I just like to entertain myself and others. It’s an effective way to practice creativity and keep smiling. Basically, I like just to smile :) I drew the first picture and Anna added what you see in the second. Every picture represents a change of hands. First me, then Anna, then me, then Anna, then me… you get the idea. Here’s the story! Continue reading
Panda Riding a Rainbow Unicorn Pony with Sparkles
I know, but I couldn’t think of a better name for this post haha! You know some things about me from poems and other random posts, but not much. Mostly because as people we tend to get busy and have this need to tell interesting things, when in reality all others want to hear is the normal stuff. We relate to normal stuff. So this post is to share one of my normal stuffs :)
Every Sunday I volunteer in the children’s area at my church. Specifically, I work with the 3rd -5th graders. The 3rd grade girls are my main group right now. Anyways, we start off in this play area called the Cafe (long story I might tell sometime) before we head over to our lesson/worship/other stuff room called the Studio (another long story.. really needs pictures). In the Cafe, we have xbox, wii, fooseball, coloring tables and my favorite, the dance machine. (View videos of some dances here!) Under normal circumstances about a quarter of the girls would be on that machine, or behind it, dancing like crazy, but…… it broke last Wednesday. It is a great sadness that we are all learning to cope with. On the bright side, we have all been much less sweaty going into service than when we were spending 20 minutes or so dancing :D
Since the dance machine was broken, I ended up at the drawing table with some of the girls. We were drawing the normal stuff… hands, penguins, kittehs, really fat pigs, etc, when Amanda handed me paper and declared in her loud pleading voice (gotta be specific she has so many) “Will you draw me a panda riding a rainbow unicorn with sparkles, Miss Lauren? PLEASE!!!!” Both random and hilarious. This is Amanda. Sooo that’s what I drew for her. See:
20120826-234423.jpg
Even better is what Amanda’s sister told me this evening. “She named the panda Skippy and the unicorn Roger. :D” I drew the unicorn with the idea that it was a girl…. but since he’s named Roger, the excuse he has is overgrown eyelashes. And that’s what we’re going with haha! I love Amanda and I love the fact that this is a totally normal occurrence for her. Not to mention that a request like this is completely normal for the Studio kids too. Crazy, creative, daring… the list goes on. I love them.
I hope you enjoyed and were entertained by this one of my normal stuffs. Maybe it was normal enough that you could relate to it too. I hope so. And I hope you smiled. Smiling is good :)
Urban Flowers (aka Weekly Photo Challenge: Urban)
This was a hard post to find a photo for. I don’t live in an urban area (Walmart and subdivisions are not urban to me), so I’ve pulled one of my pictures from a few years ago when I was living in Wales. My friends and I took a day trip to London on our day off. We did the ride the bus tour. We did the walk for forever tour. We did the take pictures everywhere thing too. The amazing thing about our one day in London was the weather. The temperature was a tad warm, but that’s to be expected in late July. The sky though was breathtaking. Blue, blue, and more blue with little white puffy clouds. GORGEOUS!! I couldn’t ask for a prettier (or more conducive to photography) day than the one we received.
The reason I picked the picture above for the challenge is because urban doesn’t mean concrete and metal to me. My favorite urban places are fully of color and vibrancy. All over London were walls of flowers. Walls of them!! So much green, pink, purple, white, blue and red everywhere. I suppose the people putting up these flowers were compensating for the gray rain that usually surrounds London. And if the flowers combined with the blue sky weren’t enough, we passed countless walls with bright graffiti on them, colorful banners hanging from the sky, and posters of bright adverts. All together, they made a very colorful urban area.
Here are some of my favorite London pictures: Continue reading
Overwhelmed
Completely overwhelmed again
Dazed, confused, alone and then
Try to find where to begin
Completely overwhelmed again
Must purge this pollution
So start a revolution
Of impolite intrusion
To purge this pollution
Back to when it started
Where my heart was hardened
And kept from begging pardon
Go back to when it started
Overwhelmed and surrounded
Can’t you see I’m being hounded
Save me fast because I’m drowing
Overwhelmed and surrounded
Don’t know how to free myself
Always doing something else
My mind is sick; I need your help
Don’t know how to free myself
Give me truth because I want more
This is my way of asking for
Someone to unlock the door
Give me truth because I want more
Completely overwhelmed again
Dazed, confused, alone and then
Try to find where to begin
God rescues me once again.
I passed!! DONE!! *happy dance*
If the title of this post wasn’t enough, let me say it again (cause you know I love to!).. I PASSED!! I am now officially in the “passed the CPA exam” club :D I got the score for BEC today. See:
20120822-005402.jpg
Now all I need is a job and a year’s worth of experience and I will be licensed. Oh the joy!! I’ve said it over and over again… “Thank you to all my praying peoples!! Without them I wouldn’t have passed and without God I wouldn’t have tried.” Life is fantastically amazing right now!!! *happy dance again*
Acrylic Nail Art Tutorial: Sea Foam Green
20120820-113059.jpg
Somewhere I saw the idea of using acrylic paint on nail polish followed by a top coat to paint your nails. It was probably either pinterest or youtube. It’s probably also pinned on my Nailed board for nail art, but that’s beside the point.
The point is I tried it out last Saturday and it works!! I was so surprised!! It’s such a good idea too. Imagine the cost that can be saved. Instead of many bottles of shades of one color nail polish, all I needed were bottles of black, white, and some other color (all of which were bought for under $1… take that nail polish people!) to get every shade imaginable of that color! Oh the possibilities make me happy :) The clean up is nice too. Soap and water and all the extra color on my hands is gone. Super fast. And the paint dries quickly. And it is durable. And if I mess up mid-painting, a little water lets me start over. And it doesn’t smell as bad. And it’s pretty. And….. you get the point.
~~~ Tutorial ~~~

Materials:
Acrylic paint (there is an endless range of colors, glitter paints, glow-in-the-dark paints, neons, etc.. check them out and get creative)
Clear nail polish
Paint brush
Water (to rinse brushes)
Cloth to wipe brushes on (I use a paper towel)
Plate, paper, board, or something else to mix colors on and put paint on

Instructions:
